If you're over 40, or do a lot of reading or staring at a screen, probably not.Also, the Table of Contents is useless. This is a reproduction of an older book, but in a larger size, and they haven't bothered to edit the TOC to match the actually page numbers essays appear on in this volume. So you just have to leaf through to find the essay you want.

Thank God for this edition. I'm not a big fan, but I had to have this text for my senior graduate exams and it's impossible to find anywhere else (unless you want to go digging in vintage stores. Great collection of Charles Lamb's work.
I found some of Lamb's essays very interesting and some were even quite funny. He seemed to be a very interesting man. I'm glad I had the opportunity to read his work.
*This is primarily for only one selection. I have read several in this volume, but "Grace before Meat" merits its own review.
Point Perhaps our habit of saying grace before a meal is not appropriate. It fails to be appropriate not because the Maker does not deserve thanks, but because the Eater is not truly thankful.
Path Lamb humorously demonstrates the disjunction made between the man's prayer and the man's manners at the dinner table.
Sources Lamb relies on his many hours spent before a table, in the company of both children, gentlemen, and gluttons.
Agreement Lamb makes the comparison of the belly to a god. I think he is exactly right. Our appetites rule over us. Whether one gorges, or starves themselves, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame.
Personal App When I sit down to pray before a meal, do I thank God for his provision at every occasion, or merely at feasts? And do I take this thankful spirit with me as I open my mouth again to eat?
