I discuss my life with the Thoratec Heartmate II left ventricular assist device (LVAD) and how my life changed.

One Percent My Journey Overcoming Heart Disease eBook Thomas Martin
My husband never had an LVAD, in fact a team of cardiologists sent him home to die explaining "he'll be dead within 2 weeks, probably a few days." Here we are, Memorial Day Weekend 2015 more than SEVEN whole years later and my husband just returned from running a few errands. Obviously I read One Percent with great interest, we did a few things different but the overall theme was much the same. We corrected some dietary deficiencies, tried to limit his exposure to a VERY toxic work environment (the people and the environment both are EXTREMELY toxic, no wonder EVERYONE involved spending much time physically in that office are now either dead (I'm sorry TW...), had lung issues or now have cardiovascular disease... EVERYONE. It's a VERY sick environment with mentally abusive management.I read Thomas's advice on what he did specifically to resolve his heart disease. He's definitely on the right path! I would recommend changing up the recommendation for "B vitamins" to "Methylated B Vitamins" for those with MTHFR genetic mutations, otherwise his advice is definitely conducive to reversing heart disease.
I was fortunate to have stumbled upon an autographed copy that the author signed to his "beloved sister". I'm not sure how the book physically evolved into the hands of an Amazon reseller but it's a very special copy of the book indeed!

One Percent My Journey Overcoming Heart Disease eBook Thomas Martin Reviews
WOW! Every Cardiac patient or person who loves a Cardiac patient needs to read this book! I could not put it down. A very easy and inspiring read.
.
Martin is all for being involved in your own medical treatment. Don't expect doctors to "do it all". It's your body and your life! Find what works for you.
.
Tom Martin has shared his experience, strength and hope with other Cardiac patients (like myself) and I came away with enough fight to face another day.
.
Thank you Tom! Barb
This guy went through hell and back. I can't believe they had him on the table when they finally realized that they didn't have the tool to remove his fllter. On the upside, it is amazing that they have developed a pump to keep people alive that they carry around all over the place. I wish the book was a little longer as I was interested in Mr Martin's thoughts after the ordeal.
What an inspirational story! Tom's journey is so heart-felt and real. I laughed and cried and finally rejoiced with everything he revealed. This book is appropriate for all of us as it chronicles his experiences with the allopathic health profession as well as his approach to holistic healing. I truly enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it.
I too am a VAD patient and have read this inspiring must read book. This is also my 1st review on seeing that this is a very important book to me and I highly recommend it to anyone with heart issues. It can literally save your life. I have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and have been through a lot over the past several years. I am focused in keeping a positive outlook and trying to improve my health inch by inch, any way that I can. This book answers many questions and supports many of my previously beliefs that anything is possible so long as you believe that you can achieve it. It has helped me maintain a positive outlook in my quest for better health. Read this book and take control of your health.
Review by Sherri Myers....
This is a story about the author’s personal journey with heart disease and the jungle of medical interventions he endured. His tenacity in questioning medical doctors and not blindly following every recommendation is inspiring. He shows respect and gives recognition to certain medical specialist and their necessity but gives the reader the courage to confront alternative ways to overcome illness.
I would highly recommend this book. The author has done extensive research and gives precise examples of how each patient should take personal responsibility to research medicines and procedures.
Since I have CHF and low thyroid and have walked some of the path towards healing that Thomas has, I was very encouraged by this book. It's too bad that we have to read so much written by other doctors to be able to walk a healing path, which the drugs don't do. I have a good cardiologist, but I had to tell him "I don't feel like you really care about me as a person" before he actually started treating me like a person instead of a case. Long story short for now he seems to be on my side, which is "I'm going to beat this thing". If you or a loved one has congestive heart failure, read this book. As others have said, it's very well written.
The author is an excellent writer which made this book an easy read. He kept it very interesting. My wife and I read this book together on our separate s. We literally devoured it. And we can vouch for its authenticity. My wife, at age 66, by the grace of God, is also a member of the 1 Percent (or possibly 2%) club. Her LVAD was implanted at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago and explanted 14 months later. Many of the author's experiences paralleled hers. I would highly recommend this book to any heart patients who have just had their pants scared off by cardiologists telling them they have only a few options left heart transplant, LVAD, or die. One caveat, though. Every case is different. The author had a lot of problems, especially during the explantation of the LVAD. But these problems were unique to his situation. So don't let his experiences scare you.
The author's view on nutrition seems rather radical. But he has done the research. One thing is certain -- we Americans need to get serious about our health and stop putting garbage into our bodies. Our healthcare system cannot sustain it. The author points to many resources that we can turn to in order to improve our eating habits and therfore our general health. I, for one, will be checking them out.
